{"id":5646,"date":"2019-12-22T05:39:23","date_gmt":"2019-12-22T05:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/really.zonky.org\/?p=5646"},"modified":"2019-12-22T05:39:24","modified_gmt":"2019-12-22T05:39:24","slug":"terfs-safe-spaces-and-tilting-at-the-wrong-windmills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/really.zonky.org\/?p=5646","title":{"rendered":"TERFs, Safe Spaces, and Tilting At The Wrong Windmills"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One slightly amusing aspect that seems to have been missed during the recent (to me at least) kerfuffle on Twitter between <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/TERF\">TERFs<\/a> and trans-women regarding whether the later should be allowed into safe spaces for women, is the irony of feminists defending single-sex &#8216;spaces&#8217; when their predecessors spent so long fighting against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let&#8217;s get a few things out of the way :-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If a woman is so keen to be a man that she queues up to have her &#8216;bits&#8217; re-arranged, then of course he&#8217;s a man (this way around doesn&#8217;t seem to get said enough). And the other way around.<\/li><li>I&#8217;m not arguing that women need &#8216;safe spaces&#8217; away from men.<\/li><li>I&#8217;m not arguing that men should have &#8216;safe spaces&#8217; away from women (although the non-orthogonality of this position disturbs me).
