The full debate can be found online :-<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"853\" height=\"505\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z6kgvhG3AkI?wmode=transparent&amp;fs=1&amp;hl=en&amp;modestbranding=1&amp;iv_load_policy=3&amp;showsearch=0&amp;rel=1&amp;theme=dark&amp;hd=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>However it can all be summed up by a response to a simple question: &#8220;What would make you change your mind?&#8221; :-<\/p>\n<p>Bill: &#8220;Evidence&#8221;<br \/>\nKen: &#8220;Nothing&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So what is this about St Augustine? It turns out that Christians have known they&#8217;ll look stupid if they get too literal about the story of creation, for a <em>very<\/em> long time. St Augustine had this to say about the likes of Ken :-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cUsually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the\u00a0heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and\u00a0orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the\u00a0predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and\u00a0the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth,\u00a0and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from reason and\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Now, it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a\u00a0Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking\u00a0nonsense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such\u00a0an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a\u00a0Christian and laugh it to scorn. The shame is not so much that an\u00a0ignorant individual is derided, but that people outside the household of\u00a0faith think our sacred writers held such opinions, and, to the great\u00a0loss of those for whose salvation we toil, the writers of our Scripture\u00a0are criticized and rejected as unlearned men.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>St Augustine of Hippo, from &#8220;The Literal Meaning of Genesis&#8221;, appx 400 C.E.<\/p>\n<p>So I guess St Augustine is busy rolling his eyes and cringing at the sight of christians like Ken.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently a Creationist (Ken Ham)\u00a0debated with a sensible person (Bill Nye) about the merits of Creationism.
