{"id":2761,"date":"2013-02-22T12:38:45","date_gmt":"2013-02-22T12:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/really.zonky.org\/?p=2761"},"modified":"2013-02-22T13:05:15","modified_gmt":"2013-02-22T13:05:15","slug":"raspberry-pi-alternatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/really.zonky.org\/?p=2761","title":{"rendered":"Raspberry PI Alternatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raspberrypi.org\/\">Raspberry PI<\/a> is a pretty cool device, but it is not the only small cheap computer around, and given that the PI is more hardware hacking orientated I thought I&#8217;d dig up some links for some of those other devices. Especially as I&#8217;ve got two Arduino projects on the go.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s actually a surprising number of devices out there; some running Linux and some running Android. And in a surprising variety of form factors; I&#8217;ve avoided looking at the simple boards &#8211; the point here is to look at devices that are\u00a0<em>different :-<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/trimslice.com\/web\/\">Trim-Slice<\/a>\u00a0looks quite an interesting device, but all seems to have gone quiet since March 2012.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.giadatech.com\/index.php?act=pShow&amp;id=16\">Giada Q11<\/a>\u00a0is a similar device which is about the size of a VCR &#8230; or a 3.5&#8243; external hard disk enclosure.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deviceonchip.com\/cloud-client.html\">Cloud Client<\/a> mini PC is a touch smaller being roughly the size of a double-CD case.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solid-run.com\/cubox\">CuBox<\/a> is more square than the rest and is roughly the same size as a mains plug.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fxitech.com\/\">Cotton Candy<\/a> is an ARM in a USB stick; a cheaper option but possibly via Ebay is the <a href=\"http:\/\/liliputing.com\/2013\/01\/at-20-the-u2-may-be-the-cheapest-android-tv-stick-around.html\">U2<\/a>, although most cheaper options don&#8217;t have quite the same features as the Cotton Candy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This is not to imply that there are not others out there, nor that these are &#8220;better&#8221; in any way.
